Idle听Billing

Show all answers

If you live in a rural property in Alberta and ATCO Electric is your distributor, you鈥檒l still get charged idle service fees called Idle Billing, even if your electricity service has been disconnected. Since we are currently your default energy retailer, you are receiving these ATCO Electric Idle Billing charges on your 欧美情色 Energy Regulated Services bill.

The cost of idle charges depends on where you are located. It might take a few months for Idle Billing to kick in, so your first bill could be a bit higher than just one month of charges. Before you disconnect your service, compare the cost of these idle fees and any reconnection charges with the cost of simply flipping off your breakers and continuing to pay the non-energy charges each month.

Idle Billing helps cover the cost of maintaining the nearby transmission lines and keeps your place connected to the grid. Think of it as a little maintenance fee to keep things ready for when you want to flip the switch!

Idle charges kick in when your power is cut off, and no electricity is being used. It only applies to rural customers who have ATCO Electric as their local distributor.

Yes, but it鈥檚 a big step. You can ask your distributor to remove the equipment from your property鈥攍ike power poles, lines, and meters鈥攕o you鈥檙e no longer connected to the power grid. This is called salvaging, and it鈥檚 usually only done if you鈥檙e sure you won鈥檛 need electricity on the property again. It鈥檚 a costly and time-consuming process, and putting the infrastructure back later can be expensive, so be sure to talk to your distributor, ATCO Electric, about the costs involved before making the call!
